10/24 ZERO1 Results

Today’s major ZERO1 show is over and there is a lot coming out of it. Full results and notes from today at Korakuen:

Rikiya Fudo beat Shito Ueda in 8:17.

Osamu Namiguchi Retirement Match: Kintaro Kanemura beat Osamu Namiguchi in 16:03.

Minoru Fujita & Takaya Sugawara beat Fujita “Jr.” Hayato & Shota Takanashi in 15:25. Sugawara pinned Takanashi after Shiisanputa.

Kenta Kakinuma Debut Match: Ryouji Sai & Daisuke Sekimoto beat Shinjiro Otani & Kenta Kakinuma in 17:38. Sekimoto pinned Kakinuma with a German suplex hold.

Ikuto Hidaka & Munenori Sawa beat NWA Intercontinental Tag Team Champions Kohei Sato & KAMIKAZE in 23 minutes to win the titles. Hidaka & Sawa become the 23rd NWA Intercontinental Tag Team Champions. (Hidaka wins titles for the 2nd time) Hidaka beat KAMIKAZE with a Ground Cobra Cutback.

Toshiaki Kawada beat ZERO1 World Heavyweight Champion Masato Tanaka in 14:20 to win the title. Kawada becomes the 6th ZERO1 World Heavyweight Champion.

Show notes:
Namiguchi retires just short of what would’ve been 6 years in wrestling, leaving at age 29. He won 3 titles in his career: NWA Intercontinental Tag Team, WDB Tag Team and WWA World Jr. Lightweight.
Kawada’s title win gives him his first singles title since February 2005, when he lost the All-Japan Triple Crown.
This is the second time in 2 career singles matches Kawada has beaten Tanaka. The first time was December 2001.
Kawada asked ZERO1 to find a suitable challenger for his next match, which President Shinjiro Otani swore to do.
Kenta Kakinuma, who debuted today, is a 22-year-old rookie out of Saitama. Weighing in at 198 pounds/90 kg, he likely will compete in the Junior Heavyweight division.
