Joshi News: NEO Title Now Officially Retired (Or Is It?)

The last remnants of the old NEO promotion are now all but officially retired with the promotion-although it took longer than expected, the NEO Singles Title is now officially RETIRED and the NWA Women’s Pacific Singles Championship is now VACANT. Previous champion Ayumi Kurihara returned the titles to NEO President Tetsuya Koda today at a press conference where Ayumi also announced an excursion to CMLL (Mexico) next month. Kurihara won the titles at NEO’s final event on 12/31/2010 but apparently asked to keep the titles. She got to, but never defended either one. For now Koda will keep the belts and likely consult with former champion Yoshiko Tamura on what to do with them. Does this mean the end of the titles? According to Koda, “Never Say Never…” We’ll see what happens.

I suspect we’ve not seen the last of the NWA belt. But the NEO belt is dead, for sure.
