6/10 New Japan Results-Who Will Be This Year’s Best?

New Japan wrapped up this year’s BEST OF THE SUPER JUNIOR today, and we now know who this year’s winner is. Results from Korakuen:
They claimed 2005 paid (a Full House).
TJP, Daisuke Sasaki & Kenny Omega beat Mascara Dorada, Hiromu Takahashi & KUSHIDA in 9:12. Omega pinned Takahashi after Croyt’s Wrath.

Yujiro Takahashi, Masato Tanaka, Takashi Iizuka & Toru Yano beat Kyosuke Mikami, King Fale, Wataru Inoue & Hiroyoshi Tenzan in 8:20. Takahashi pinned Fale.

BEST OF THE SUPER JUNIOR Semifinals:
Kota Ibushi beat Davey Richards in 11:17.
Ryusuke Taguchi beat Prince Devitt in 8:29. No repeat for the defending champion, it’ll be Taguchi trying to make it 2 straight for Apollo 55.

The Great Sasuke, Tiger Mask 4, Koji Kanemoto & Jushin Liger beat Fujita “Jr.” Hayato, Tomohiro Ishii, Jado & Gedo in 10:28. TM 4 beat Gedo with a reverse double armbar.

Satoshi Kojima & Makabe beat Taichi & TAKA Michinou in 5:04. Kojima pinned Taichi after a lariat.

BEST OF THE SUPER JUNIOR Finals: Kota Ibushi beat Ryusuke Taguchi in 20:22 to win the tournament. It’s the first BOSJ victory for Ibushi, and for at least this year the “Independent Genius” is the best of the bunch. This almost certainly puts Ibushi next in line for an IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title shot, and to me again reaffirms an occasional notion that, despite being one of DDT’s top stars, he’s wasting some of his potential talent being based in a comedy promotion. It’s time for him to jump to The Big 3 while he still can, he’s still got some good years in him but he can be so much more. Nevertheless, congratulations to Ibushi on an outstanding performance and a well-deserved victory. And a nice 5 million yen payday too. He’s also already made a Jr. Title challenge, so figure that’s happening in the near-future too.

Next up is DOMINION 6.18 on 6/18 at Osaka Prefectural Gym, followed by J SPORTS CROWN on 6/21-6/23. (As a reminder, I will have to miss most or all of that tournament due to my being away, so results will be delayed)

Hope this leads to Ibushi being a signed NJPW talent soon.
