The present and perhaps the future of women’s MMA in Japan are set to face off once again. According to MMA site sherdog.com, Japanese women’s MMA legend Megumi Fujii (pictured above), considered by many to be the #1 female fighter in the world, has been given permission by Bellator Fighting Championships to fight in Japan on July 9 at the next Jewels event, and will face Mika Nagano. This is a rematch of a fight from very early in Nagano’s career, which Fujii won. Perhaps to Fujii’s dismay, this fight is under “Jewels Rules” which means restrictions on “ground-and-pound” fighting. Simply put, you can’t really use strikes on a grounded foe, which is no fun. In the first meeting, which was Nagano’s debut fight, Fujii submitted Nagano in just 80 seconds. This also will be “Mega Megu’s” second straight fight against a fighter who is also a wrestler-she beat fellow wrestler/fighter Emi Fujino in her last fight in December 2010. We’ll find out what happens this time on July 9!
