7/3 ZERO1 Results

ZERo1 held their special annual event today to comemmorate the anniversary (the 7th this year) of the death of promotion founder Shinya Hashimoto. Results from Korakuen via SportsNavi:
As always, they didn’t announce attendance.
Shito Ueda, Kenta Kakinuma & Yoshikazu Yokoyama beat Mineo Fujita, Yusaku Obata & G-Kid (Independent/Freelancer) in 9:50. Kakinuma pinned Kid with a German suplex hold.

Ikuto Hidaka & Takafumi Ito (Pancrase/MMA) beat Munenori Sawa & Fujita “Jr.” Hayato in 11:54. Ito beat Sawa with a choke sleeper. As a result, Hidaka & Ito get the next shot at NWA International Lightweight Tag Team Champions Kaijin Habu Otoko & Takuya Sugawara. Date TBA.

ZERO1 International Jr. Heavyweight Champion Takuya Sugawara beat Frank David in 13:12 to retain the title. V2 for Sugawara.

NWA Intercontinental Tag Team Champions Kohei Sato & KAMIKAZE beat Steve Corino & Atsushi Sawada in 11:38 to retain the titles. KAMIKAZE beat Corino with a ground cobra twist. V2 for the champs.

NWA World Heavyweight Champion The Sheik beat ZERO1 World Heavyweight Champion Ryouji Sai in 13:21 by ref stoppage to win the ZERO1 Title and retain the NWA Title. The Sheik becomes the 11th ZERO1 World Heavyweight Champion. This match was for both titles. Former All-Japan referee Kyohei Wada was the special referee. Also note that SportsNavi referred to the ZERO1 Title as the AWA World Heavyweight Title, which the ZERO1 title was before the promotion ended it’s relationship with the AWA in late 2007.

Shinya Hashimoto Memorial Special Tag Match: Shinjiro Otani & Masato Tanaka beat Akebono & Daisuke Sekimoto in 16:12. Otani pinned Sekimoto with a dragon suplex hold.

Shinya Hashimoto Memorial Special Match: Yoshihiro Takayama beat Daichi Hashimoto in 11:04. After the match, Daichi cut a promo and declared himself “independent” from his late father.

Next up is Fire Festival ’11 starting on 7/24.

    I’m surprised Hashimoto was able to speak after his match. And now the AWFUL Sheik has two world titles. What a load of crap.
