Indy News: IGF Crowns First Champion
Following up on the situation in IGF with Josh Barnett off the 8/27 card due to apparent contract issues, SportsNavi reports IGF has announced the new plans for 8/27. There won’t be a title match after all…but there will be a defense. Instead of a determination tournament final, they decided today that Barnett’s original opponent, Jerome LeBanner, will instead be awarded the IGF Super Luxurious 200 Million Yen Belt and be recognized as the first champion. But he will have to defend the title on 8/27 and his opponent should be announced Wednesday. 2 more matches were also added to the card today: Hideki Suzuki vs. Harry Smith (the former D.H. Smith in WWE and son of the late “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith) and Montanha Silva vs. Ray Sefo. That makes 8 matches so far with at least one or two more to be added as Bobby Lashley & Eric Hammer participation were also announced and there’s still the matter of Atsushi Sawada calling out Naoya Ogawa. Ogawa participation is also scheduled on the event. Sawada barged in right after the presser ended, again demanding a singles match with Ogawa. Still hasn’t gotten it. Yet.
