One of puroresu’s top high-flyers and a face of Dragon Gate, the masked Dragon Kid is a 12-year veteran and one of DG’s most recognizable and accomplished stars. He actually began his wrestling career as a referee in FMW in 1996, but was shunned by some promotions because of his size until Jinsei Shinzaki introduced him to Ultimo Dragon, who accepted Kid into his gym. Soon afterwards he debuted in the Toryumon and was considered the heir to Dragon. In 1999, he debuted in Japan along with the rest of Toryumon. In February, he captured his first title, defeating Dr. Cerebro to win the vacant NWA World Welterweight Title. He would lose the title two months later to SUWA, and in that match, he suffered a bad knee injury that put him out of action for the remainder of the year. He would return to action on the first show of 2000 and proceeded to feud with SUWA. Though he failed to win the NWA World Welterweight Title back from SUWA, he did defeat him in a Mask vs. Hair match on August 24. Shortly after winning, he was attacked by a debuting Darkness Dragon, and they started a feud that would last for a little over two years. It ended on September 8, 2002, when he defeated Darkness Dragon in a Best of Three Falls Mask vs. Mask Match, forcing Darkness to unmask.
After bouncing around various factions, he finally settled in with Do Fixer in 2004, winning the Open The Brave Gate Title and 3 Open The Triangle Gate Titles before being forced to the sidelines in late 2006 due to illness. In early 2007 he returned and joined Typhoon due to Do Fixer disbanding, teaming with CIMA until an injury forced CIMA to the sidelines, at which point Kid teamed with Shingo Takagi to make a deep run in the annual Summer Adventure Tag League. At the end of 2008 Typhoon was forced to disband, at which point Kid jumped to KAMIKAZE. Another Open The Triangle Gate reign followed, then in 2009 Kid got another push and became a focal point of the new Dragon Gate USA extension, earning a shot at Open The Freedom Gate Champion BxB Hulk late in the year, but coming up short. Upon returning to Japan Kid left KAMIKAZE to join CIMA in WARRIORS-5. While he remains one of the most exciting wrestlers in DG, his inability to reach the highest level and challenge for the Open The Dream Gate or even win the Freedom Gate Title have caused many to question if he’ll ever be able to reach the ace level many expected him to.
Kid also has dabbled in music, recording a music CD with Eiji Ezaki (Hayabusa) that was released in Japan in November 2007.
