Open The Dream Gate Championship History

The Open The Dream Gate Championship is the top title in Dragon Gate. The title belt’s face has a “gate” on it which contains a plate with the titleholders’ name. Any official challenger for the belt carries a key used to open the gate with, and should they win the title, then they can open the gate and put their name inside it. However, if the title is successfully defended, then the key is added to the belt as a symbol of that successful defense. Unlike most other titles, challengers to the title must either be nominated by the champion or make a challenge for the title and then it must be accepted by the champion. Title matches are treated as major events with elaborate pre-match rituals, including playing of the Japanese National Anthem.

To this date there have been 13 Open The Dream Gate Champions. They are listed below in order of reign along with which reign it was (some won it multiple times), length of reign and number of successful defenses.
