Shingo Takagi is a young superstar who is considered the future ace/torchbearer of Dragon Gate. A former bodybuilder before becoming a wrestler, he was the Dragon Gate dojo’s first graduate, debuting in October 2004. After a year or so in DG, he made the first of what has become several trips to the USA, where he competes under just his first name or as SHINGO. In 2006 & 2007 he competed for Ring Of Honor and it’s affiliate, Full Impact Pro, enjoying a brief run as ROH World Tag Team Champions with Naruki Doi. In his final ROH match in April 2007, he came up short against ROH World Champion Takeshi Morishima. After this he returned to Japan.
On May 10, 2007, shortly after forming the stable New Hazard, Takagi, along with BxB Hulk and Cyber Kong, defeated the Typhoon team of CIMA, Susumu Yokosuka, and Ryo Saito for the Open the Triangle Gate Championship. They held the titles until July 13, 2007 when the titles were vacated due to a Hulk injury. This was followed by an unsuccessful challenge for the vacant titles then another appearance for ROH when they visited Osaka, where he & Susumu Yokosuka lost to ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes. This was followed by a brief trip to Hawaii, where his charisma and ring skills won him more fans.
2008 saw things turn gradually for the better. After turning on his old faction and creating the heel faction Real Hazard, Takagi broke through in July and won the then-vacant Open the Dream Gate Title by beating Hulk for the title after CIMA had to vacate it due to injury. He would soon get kicked out of Real Hazard amidst tensions within the group due to Takagi being compassionate towards Hulk and CIMA, and eventually joined Typhoon. But issues with Yokosuka led to Takagi being banished from the faction late in the year.
At the end of 2008 Takagi lost the Open The Dream Gate Title to Doi, and as 2009 began he formed his new unit KAMIKAZE. Teaming with new allies Taku Iwasa and Dragon Kid, Takagi soon won another Open The Triangle Gate Title and on March 8 he won his first wrestling tournament in Germany by emerging triumphant at wXw’s annual 16 Carat Gold Tournament. They lost the Triangle Gate Titles in April but soon gained another ally in despised heel YAMATO, who helped Takagi win the annual Summer Adventure Tag League in August. This led to a Open The Twin Gate Title reign starting in September 2009, which would further cement Takagi’s status as future ace. He will also be returning to the USA more often to appear in Dragon Gate USA. He’s managed to stay relatively healthy to this point in his career, and if he can continue that the sky could be the limit for this young powerhouse.
Takagi missed the first 3+ months of 2011 due to a shoulder injury, but returned on April 9, 2011-his scheduled return was delayed about 2 weeks due to the March 2011 earthquake & tsunami that struck Japan.
