IGF (Inoki Genome Federation)
IGF, short for Inoki Genome Federation, is an independent promotion created by New Japan founder and Hall Of Fame wrestler Antonio Inoki in 2007. Inoki created IGF after leaving New Japan. IGF quickly began a talent exchange with TNA Wrestling and held their first show in June 2007. It didn’t go well, with virtually the entire card undergoing last-minute changes. Currently they run a show, on average, once every 2-3 months. Events feature a variety of both wrestling and MMA talent.
IGF recognized the IWGP 3rd Belt Championship which was created when then-IWGP Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar was stripped of the title but never returned the belt and left New Japan, so the title was held up and a new belt created as the main belt but Brock’s title became recognized by Inoki as the 3rd Belt. It was done away with in February 2008 when then-IWGP Heavyweight Champion Shinsuke Nakamura beat then-3rd Belt Champion Kurt Angle to unify the titles. They have had no titles since then, but in November 2010 they introduced what translated as the Super Luxurious 200 Million Yen Title, which will officially be integrated into the promotion in February 2011.
Although IGF lists it’s current talent on it’s website, all are currently active in other promotions and/or in MMA with none belonging exclusively to IGF. Therefore, there is no talent/roster section here outside of the founder/owner, Antonio Inoki:
Although not listed here, the promotion also added Masa Chono in November 2010 as an executive producer.
