Jaguar Yokota

yokota_jaguarJaguar Yokota is considered one of the greatest female wrestlers ever despite a couple instances of retiring and then un-retiring later on. She is best known as a headliner in All-Japan Women and the founder of the short-lived JD’star promotion.
Yokota debuted as a 15-year-old girl in AJW in 1977, just under a month short of her 16th birthday. She was inspired to join AJW by 1970s AJW stars Jackie Sato & Maki Ueda. In January 1980 she won her first title, the AJW Junior Championship. Later that year, she won the WWWA World Tag Team Championship with Ayumi Hori, on December 17, having also become the first AJW Champion with a victory over Nancy Kumi two days earlier. On February 25, 1981 she achieved her greatest success to that point, defeating her original inspiration, Jackie Sato, for the WWWA World Heavyweight Championship. She was 19 years old at the time of her first title reign. Her reign lasted until May 1983 when she dropped the title to La Galactica in a hair vs. mask match. She won the title back a month later. During her second world title run, she had very notable feuds with Devil Masami and Lioness Asuka, but had to vacate the championship in 1985 due to a shoulder injury. She retired in 1986 at only 24, but remained with AJW as a trainer and is credited with training several legends of the ring including Megumi Kudo, Kyoko Inoue, Toshiyo Yamada, and the woman now considered the greatest female wrestler ever-Manami Toyota.
In 1995 she unretired when she formed Jd’Star, and competed as it’s top star until 1998 when she retired again. During this time she was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall Of Fame. She would get married in August 2004, soon after that she un-retired yet again. Today she is still semi-active on the joshi circuit, making occasional appearances as a freelancer but with promotions putting on a wave of special-themed events recently she has seen slightly increased activity in several different promotions, mostly in NEO & JWP.
