Saki Maemura

profile_sakimaemura Saki Maemura is a former joshi wrestler who, like a select few before her, accomplished a lot in a short time at a young age. She debuted in 2001 in All-Japan women at just 16, and rose through the ranks steadily until putting together a big career year in 2004. She started off the year by beating long-time rival Hikaru for her first career title, the AJW Singles Title, then the very next day she teamed with Kaori Yoneyama to beat Hikaru and Haruka Matsuo to win the AJW Tag Team Title and become a double champion, remarkably at only 18! She would also win the AWA World Woman’s Title in 2007 before losing it to Hikaru several months later. She would become one of the stars of the now-defunct SUN promotion, frequently headlining the promotion’s shows while also facing Hikaru in a series of special “Chick Fights SUN” matches in the ZERO1 promotion, where she also won the WDB Tag Team Titles with Minoru Fujita. When SUN folded in April 2009, the sun also set on Saki’s career as she would defend the WDB Titles successfully for the 4th time and retire as a champion, then on the same card she lost her final career match to Hikaru, who also retired after their final match together and were both given an emotional sendoff. Saki walked away at only 24 years old but put together an impressive 8 year career in the ring before she did.
