Hirooki Goto

A 7-year veteran of New Japan, Hirooki Goto is a former Jr. Heavyweight star who is now trying his luck at Heavyweight. Like many before him, was a former amateur wrestler before going pro, competing in both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling.
Goto initially joined New Japan after graduating college, but was forced to drop out early due to an injury. He returned in late 2002 and debuted in July 2003 in the Jr. Heavyweight division. In early 2005, he won the NJPW Young Lion Cup, defeating Hiroyuki Itō in the tournament final. After turning heel and joining Jushin Liger’s “Control Terrorism Unit” (“C.T.U.”) stable, Goto adopted the ring name “Masked CTU-H”. He won his first championship on May 15, 2005, teaming with Minoru to defeat Koji Kanemoto and Wataru Inoue in the Tokyo Dome for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. The duo held the titles for nine months, losing to El Samurai and Ryusuke Taguchi on February 19, 2006 in Tokyo. Goto then competed abroad for most of 2006 & 2007, first appearing in TNA Wrestling as part of Team Japan in the TNA World X Cup then went on a 1-year excursion to Mexico, returning to Japan in August 2007.
Upon his return to New Japan, Goto moved up to Heavyweight. Not that far into his return Goto join the Stable “R.I.S.E” with Shinsuke Nakamura, Travis Tomko, Giant Bernard and fellow former CTU team mates Minoru, Milano Collection AT, and Prince Devitt. On November 11, he challenged Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, but after a long and hard fought match, Tanahashi would win. In 2008 Goto wrestled one of his child hood idols, The Great Muta at New Japan’s annual January 4th Tokyo Dome Show. Although having a good showing, Goto would fall to Muta. Goto further broke through with a surprise win in the 2008 G1 Climax, then followed that up with a 2009 New Japan Cup win although since his G1 win he has come up short in subsequent IWGP & GHC Heavyweight Title shots. But his place among the top up-and-coming Heavyweights in New Japan seems secure for the time being.
Goto left New Japan in late March or early April 2011 for an excursion to Mexico. He will return on May 3, 2011.
