Karl Anderson

profile_karlandersonNicknamed “Machine Gun”, Karl Anderson is currently one of the top gaijin competing in New Japan, having arrived there by way of talent exchange agreements between NJPW & the NWA. He’s a borderline mid-carder at best in singles action, but has excelled in the tag team ranks, especially in his current team with Giant Bernard. He is also a storyline member of the famed Anderson wrestling family. Additionally, he has maybe the coolest ring intro in New Japan, when he is introduced he performs a machine gun shooting impersonation with his fingers complete with matching sound effects.
Anderson began training in wrestling in 2000 but shortly after starting he suffered a concussion that kept him out a year. When he finally felt that he was able to return, through the urging and help of his good friend Ash Parker, he contacted Kirk Sheppard with the Northern Wrestling Federation in Cincinnati, who introduced him to Roger Ruffen, the head trainer at BoneKrushers (the NWF’s wrestling school). Anderson trained for several months before debuting in his first professional match on May 10, 2002 in a losing encounter with The Zodiac. In the NWF, Anderson started as part of the Young Lions, a four-man group of popular rookies who entered the promotion at about the same time. First to leave the group was “Dead Sexy” Matt Parks. Anderson eventually joined Parks as a heel and began a memorable feud with Ryan Stone and Jay Donaldson. Anderson also won 2 NWF Championships and a NWF Tag Team Championship with Donaldson.
Anderson was noticed by the New Japan dojo in late 2005 and after dropping his NWF title in January 2006 moved to LA and began living & training at the dojo. He also competed in the NWA and other indy promotions before heading to Japan, where he got his first taste of the big time in the 2008 New Japan Cup as an injury replacement for Yuji Nagata. Since then he has maintained a somewhat regular New Japan schedule, alternating between singles competition, usually in opening event matches, and tag team competition, where he has formed an effective tag team with fellow gaijin Giant Bernard. Anderson won his first major tournament in late 2009, teaming with Bernard to win the G1 Tag League and subsequently earn an IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Title shot. He currently is a member of Shinsuke Nakamura’s CHAOS stable in NJPW.
Anderson finally claimed IWGP gold in June 2010 when he won his first IWGP Heavyweight Tag team Championship with Bernard. They added the GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Titles in June 2011, further solidifying their claim to being the top tag team in Japan.
