Prince Devitt

Originally from Ireland, Prince Devitt is currently the top Jr. Heavyweight gaijin in New Japan and a 9-year veteran of wrestling. Not surprisingly, he was a devoted soccer (football to the Europeans) player growing up until he started watching wrestling and saw the wrestler he would idolize-Dynamite Kid. Starting out in the NWA via UK Hammerlock Wrestling in summer 2000, he would work his way up the ranks over several years and win 2 NWA British Commonwealth Heavyweight Titles in 2004 & 2005 before leaving for America to enroll in New Japan’s dojo in Los Angeles, CA. About 5 months later in April 2006 he made his official NJPW debut. A few months later he was invited by Jushin Liger to join the C.T.U. faction, and competed in the 2007 Best Of The Super Junior before being sidelined by an injury. He returned a few months later and won the first of 2 IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title reigns in 2008 with Minoru.
Devitt had a breakout year in 2009 with his 3rd IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Title reign, this time with Ryusuke Taguchi, and a major breakthrough performance in the Super J-Cup, reaching the finals before losing to Naomichi Marufuji. Devitt won the 2010 Best Of The Super Junior Tournament in June 2010 and followed that up by defeating Naomichi Marufuji a couple weeks later to claim the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title for the first time in his career. He has now firmly established himself among the elite Jr. Heavyweights in New Japan.
Although he & Ryusuke Taguchi lost the match and the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles as a result on 10/11/2010, Devitt won the 2010 Tokyo Sports Grand Prix Match Of The Year Award for that match against DDT’s Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega. He & Taguchi almost won the Best Tag Team Award too but lost in a runoff to Manabu Nakanishi & Strong Man.
