Toru Yano

Toru Yano is a 7-year veteran who was an accomplished amateur wrestler before joining New Japan. In the late 1990s he was a national freestyle wrestling champion in high school and college before joining New Japan in January 2002. He debuted in May 2002 on his 24th birthday, then began moving up the ranks after a heel turn in 2004. He won his first title during an excursion to Germany with Kendo Ka Shin in 2005, then in 2006 aligned with Makabe & Tomohiro Ishii to from the GBH faction. He won the WEW Heavyweight Title in 2007 as well as the Tokyo Sports Grand Prix Best Tag Team Award with Makabe. Yano & Makabe won the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Titles in 2008 and reigned for nearly 1 year, losing the titles in 2009 at Tokyo Dome. 3 months later, Yano turned on Makabe and became a founding member of the CHAOS faction with Shinsuke Nakamura. Today he competes primarily in tag team matches but still does some singles matches, and appears to be positioned towards the top of the mid-card ranks.
On an interesting side note, Yano is the first and only wrestler I know of that shares the exact same birthday as me.
