Mima Shimoda

Mima Shimoda is a 24-year joshi veteran who can be considered one of the top tag team wrestlers ever. Equally impressive are her 11 total tag team title reigns and that many of them over her career were with the same partner-Etsuko Mita. But she also has impressive singles credentials as well, with title reigns in All-Japan Women, NEO and ARSION. She also has title wins over several of joshi’s top stars past and present including Mayumi Ozaki, Manami Toyota, Kyoko Inoue, Mariko Yoshida and Aja Kong among others. She has been a freelancer since 2005 after alternating between freelancing and various promotions since leaving AJW in 1997. In mid-2009 she re-formed her successful tag team with Mita one final time for the Etsuko Mita Retirement Road series ahead of Mita’s retirement in November 2009.
Although her long-time partner is now retired Shimoda remains active, still making occasional appearances in NEO as well as popping up a couple times in WAVE. She has greatly cut back on joshi appearances since mid-2010 and now competes primarily in Mexico, but will make a US appearance for CHIKARA in late July 2011.
